Following London’s successful bid to host the most prestigious sporting event in the world, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) was tasked to assign traffic management professional to plan and deliver a robust transport management plan for each sporting venue for the 12-week long summer games. CTM was contracted to supply and deliver these services.
CTM’s contract covered the full-range of Olympic venues:
CTM was tasked with delivering a precise, professional and safe management operation at the highest level across multiple venues.
CTM also was also required to optimise the traffic operation delivery with multi-agency teams with differing requirements, whilst maintaining a balance between local and event traffic and support the community and event attendees.
CTM also had to ensure the company’s internal departments were sufficiently trained and organised to maintain and successfully deliver the 180 regular summer contracts the company had to fulfil.
All key members of the operations team and the part-time management team were assigned venues to ensure the company’s experience was dispersed evenly.
With no historical data to draw from, an exceptional level of knowledge surrounding each venue was required. A series of recruitment drives were held locally to each venue. Local recruitment would provide the detailed local knowledge guided by our experienced operation teams.
An outstanding standard of delivery and teamwork across all venues resulted in a 100% record by the closing out ceremony of the games, with all athletes and attendees arriving at their destination with no incidents or delays.
CTM was awarded “contractor of the week” for two consecutive weeks for their performance at Lee Valley White Water Centre.
CTM continues to utilise its knowledge and experience to assist with other large-scale sporting events such as Tour of Yorkshire in 2014 and the Virgin London Marathon each year, following the success of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
